My guess is that he’s lactose intolerant and doesn’t realize this. It took a while for my husband to figure this out.

You need an air purifier with several pounds of a activated carbon/charcoal. A regular one that just filters out particles (pollen dander etc) won't block smells. Check out the Austin air healthmate series.

Surprised no one mentioned - why the farting? Is there a food related (most likely) or medical reason? Make him/her take Gas-X?

Using activated charcoal, which is composed of carbon compounds arranged a porous structure, that creates what is essentially a “sticky” surface, molecularly-speaking. It will capture some, and hold it there like a fly stuck on flypaper, but most blows right on by it.

Dilution in the air is the best way to disperse sulphur dioxide. Or treat it with ozone, which will eliminate it, but at the expense of being a powerful, and dangerous, method. I wouldn’t want to be breathing in an oxidant gas like oxone all night, every night. No thanks. I’ll take th sulphur dioxide, which is harmless in the ppm numbers found in farts.

“Activated by light” = UV light source, kills mites, spores, molds and fungi.

Doesn’t convert sulphur dioxide into another compound, therefore doesn’t remove it.

No, it can’t.

The offensive aromatic elements in flatulence is composed of sulphur dioxide, a gas. Mechanical, UV, or electrostatic air purifier are designed to deal with suspended solids in the air, such as dust, mites, spores, and other such particles. They do nothing to change or filter out gasses themselves. You need a catalytic or chemical filter for that.
