Pack yourself a container of cheese, crackers and fruit. Or cheese, a hard boiled egg, and fruit.

OP here. I am in decent shape but now that I am in my 40's, I have put on some lbs that I want to lose (about 7). All belly fat. My main goal though is to get leaner and stronger, so I can survive competitive two day tournaments I compete in. But the fast good at night has such a pull. I try bringing rice cakes, PB, chocolate milk but hamburgers, fries and shakes call my name. And the calories in do not equal the calories out. Tonight I managed to avoid (I came home and made eggs) but later, longer nights with an hour plus ride home it's really hard to avoid. Sigh.

I get suckered in when I have to drive places or am away from home and get hungry on the go. I like a bottled protein shake (gives me my chocolate fix) and usually pack a healthier snack that I really like (popcorn, goldfish crackers, something crunchy).

Do you care about saving money?

Are you overweight?

Are you fat? Otherwise it seems you might need the calories if you're doing that much activity.

In any case, protein shakes, bananas, rice cakes, pb&j, handful of nuts, etc. . . Eat some fast-absorbing carbs for recovery and some protein for satiety.

I had to cut down my cardio to combat this. I would run (mainly for stress relief) after work 3-4 times a week and those nights I would just eat and eat and eat. Not out of depression just literally didn't feel full. Now I don't run past 30 minutes and then do weights and barre type exercise to fill out the hour. Really cut back on the carb cravings.

Nuts? Peanut butter sandwiches? Snickers?

We need some more information, OP. What are you looking for? You need something satisfying but also replenishing what you burned. Are you losing weight, maintaining, or gaining (muscle)?

I really need to figure some kind of food out for after heavy nighttime exercise. I play a sport 2-3 evenings/nights per week that often entails some travel. I may be gone for 4-6 hours, 3-4 hours play, 1-2 hours travel. The fast good joints "call me" afterwards. I am starving and need something. What good options that may also fulfil my junk cravings would be good. Any ideas?
