If your kid goes anywhere alone... but mine didn’t and most kids young enough to wear PBk don’t.

Really? because on dcum there are 7 yo's walking home from bus stops by themselves.

Unlikely. And if there are, those are not likely the kids with PBK backpacks.

What? That's nuts. You're judging whether a kid has a PBK backpack based on whether they walk to/from the bus alone? My kid started walking to/from school by himself in first grade because he insisted he didn't need his mom to do it with him. We live down the street and around the corner from our FCPS school. And he gets a new PBK or LL Bean backpack each year because in today's modern age of school supply kits and the death of the Trapper Keeper, it's the only back to school item we pick together that is actually fun!

Walk your poor 6 yo to school!

Lands End. My DD's has held up well and it was much cheaper than PBK and LL Bean. I secretly think that PBK looks a little babyish and kids will not want it post-second grade, but Lands End ones are plain and I can see DD using it through MS/HS. She loves the color.

Hers has her initials on it, but not her name. In any event, we've had talks with her about tricky people who might try to pretend they know us/her.

Jansport. They are like iron. Plus, I would never put my kids name on a backpack.

Garnet Hill also has back packs and matching lunch boxes. Personalization available.

I'm from Maine so it's always been LL Bean. I personally prefer the solid color ones, but they also have prints (actually now that I'm looking at the junior backpacks the sloths are adorable!) and they're 20% off right now.

Just looked at Lands End and they're 40% off now!

Getting 7 yo DD a new backpack for the school year; I like getting one with her name embroidered. PB Kids backpacks are pricey and I don't love the designs. Alternative suggestions?
