Bday cake has a truck candle or one that plays music.

I sneak into the bday kid's room at night while they're sleeping and decorate their room with balloons, streamers, hang some stuff on their door frame, etc. They get a big kick out of that when they awake.

Bday kid gets to choose dinner menu. It can get silly- mac & cheese on a baguette, but whatever.

Cake is homemade (I'll do store bought of their choice for their party).

During school year, they bring on treat into class.

Everyone has their own special flavor, I make it from scratch. Asshole.

Starting at his eighth birthday, ds was surprised to get ice cream for breakfast. I made his usual toaster waffles with fruit and snuck in ice cream. It’s become a tradition ever since with him and his younger sister who are both now teenagers.

We used to go to the store and pick our own cereal. Even junky ones. Only once a year.

We take them out to dinner at the restaurant of their choosing, and then come home and open a few presents and have cake. That's it.

Birthday child chooses meals for the day. These days that means Dunkin Donuts for breakfast (I do not partake!). Dinner can be a favorite that I make, or their favorite restaurant, plus cake of their choosing. One usually chooses a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake and the other a chocolate cake I make from scratch. And of course, presents! Including a card from the dog, signed with a pawprint.

I love this. Although I’m lazy so maybe I’ll modify to wrap the door kinda like I used to do wrapped lockers for friends in middle school.

We have a plate that plays happy bday music. Cake picked by bday boy/girl. Silly calls to or from family.

Decorate the house and get a cake and nice gift.

We decorate their bedroom doors and prepare their favorite homemade meals. My daughter loves chili and we make two different kinds every birthday and have family over to celebrate. We also go to dinner or lunch at their favorite restaurant sometime around their birthdays and try to meet them at school for lunch on the actual day. (Seems to be a big focus on food! Haha.). We have three kids and try to have friend parties many of the years, but the constant is at least a low key celebration with family.
