Skip Charleston. Go to NYC.

We have done it. For DS’s 16th birthday we went to Niagara Falls (his choice). For everyone in the family’s Christmas gift we did 5 days further afield.

Mine are 15 and 17. One more year until the oldest heads to college. I think it’s great they want to spend time with us. and I am enjoying every moment I can with them while I still can.

If you can afford it, I would do it. I suspect Charleston would be cheaper than NYC, if the cost would be a stretch.

Such special memories. We started doing this about 5 years ago with my then 18 year old daughter. She still wants to do this for her birthday. We enjoy this time together so much and I can't imagine a better present. Priceless in my opinion.

We’ve done this many time. I pay for it mostly out of our educational travel money. My girls have to help plan the trip. I set a budget. Usually $300-700. We stay in a cheapie hotel with breakfast and use public transportation. CityPass gets us in 10+ venues at a reduced price. We do one very nice meal.

If it's in your budget I'd do it. If not, I'd ask her about doing something locally.

We did just that for my DD’s 14th. She knew the trip was her gift and she didn’t have a friend party that year. We let her take her best friend too. It was great.

Sounds great, if it’s in budget. Enjoy time that your teen wants to spend with you. I’d get her a local necklace or something inexpensive but fun to remember the trip.
