I don’t think a backpack is mandatory. My daughter didn’t want one. Instead, I carry a duffle to each game that has a ball, extra socks, jacket and a first aid kit.

Different club and just bought a new kit this week. It is every club in travel soccer not just your club, they are all very expensive you can not avoid it. Spent Over $400 and did not get a backpack, pants or jacket. We have plenty of backpacks I'm not buying one with a special logo. The kit is supposed to be good for two years but white shorts and socks will be lucky to last one fall season without being nasty.

Typically the club makes a deal with a sponsor—Nike, Adidas, etc.—that requires the club to have their membership buy a certain amount of clothing and gear. At the clubs we’ve been at, you can’t really opt out of particular items. You will have signed a contact with the club for the year when you signed up that will have the requirement to buy the full set in there somewhere. Typically the uniforms are good for two years.

Some families split it up and buy pieces at different points of the year. You don’t really need the warm up until late fall.

I do know families that had to skip some of the items due to the cost. Kids still played and we're part of the team without any issues. I would say if the package is a burden, just get the essentials.

I agree - we are new to travel soccer this year and the uniform costs are much, much more than we've experienced in travel baseball. Not sure why 8 year olds need two different, mandatory practice jerseys.

Welcome to Travel Soccer... really none of the items are "overpriced" just make the purchase so your kid will fit in and have what the other kids have.

We are new to this next level of sports and were sort of surprised to get an email listing $300 of “mandatory” items to purchase. Some things I understand (game jerseys, shorts, etc) but some seems excessive- team backpack for $50? Regular adidas warm up pants we already have? Are these all actually “required” ? Thanks.
