Whoever said IUI is better for MFI has no clue what they are talking about.
Your AMH is severely low. It is likely that you will not respond well to medications given in IVF, but it is still possible. That said, while IUI ie not as successful, many folks dealing with DOR have found success with IUI and not IVF. If I were you, I would join reddit and go to their infertility group. Much more information, examples, and knowledge on that site than here.

IUI is likely a waste of your time and you don't have time at 41. Go straight to IVF unless Kaiser requires you to undergo IUIs

OP, if you can afford it, go straight to IVF.

Yeah. We don’t have MFI (good donor) but we also don’t know if I have issues. Because obviously we can’t try like heterosexual couples. so far they haven’t said there’s anything wrong with me except being a little old.

IUI works best for MFI because it gets the sperm where it needs to go, but doesn't help at all with egg quality issues. It AT BEST just mimics success rates for couples with no infertility issues- ie if you have MFI it will basically improve your odds to that of a couple with no issues. I would go right to ivf.

Lesbian mom here: At age 41, you need to go straight to IVF. All the vitamins in the world are not going to matter. If you want this, act now with urgency.

OP here. No medication. Always suspected I’ve had a bit of a thyroid problem but never been treated for it.

OP, your TSH is a bit high for TTC. Are you on any medication for that?

OP again. I’ve been taking a lot of vitamins and supp, including Vit D—so I’m hoping that’s higher too.

OP here. Thanks for the responses!
Here are some recent numbers. Not the best. But I guess normal considering my age.
LH 5.7
Vit D 36
TSH 3.13
FSH 11.0
AMH .20 (I had this done earlier this year when I was coming off a medication that could impact somewhat)
We live in DC. Alas. :-/

Do you live in MD?

Personally, I think it’s a waste. Since you are a same sex couple, that makes it more complicated though. I would I try a few times and hope it works. Good luck!

It's not a waste per se, but the success rates for IUI at 41 (which is also how old I am) are pretty dismal. Part of the problem is that a high proportion of eggs are chromosomally abnormal at this age, so even if you get pregnant, miscarriage is a distinct possibility. If you can swing IVF, I would switch to that after this third IUI. To the extent that IUI works, it tends to be in the first few cycles anyway. I am TTC #2 and plan to go straight to IVF (likely with PGS). Good luck!

Hi there,

I have some diminished ovarian reserve but it's not too bad. My insurance (Kaiser FEHB) covers 50% of IUIs at Shady Grove--so we are trying this for now.
I'm doing medicated (Clomid+Gonal-F) treatment plan. First two IUIs were not successful, but figure we may as well try the third. IVF is not covered for us.
I have a great nurse that says I'm responding well to the treatment, but who knows?!

Is this all a waste? Anyone over 40 had any success? Success with Shady Grove?? I'm 41.

We're an LGBT couple so I don't know my baseline fertility (never tried before). Using donor with good numbers.

Thanks for insight!
