A middle schooler can do homework on a $300 Chromebook. A tablet is NOT the right medium for typing essays. A nice dinner out with a sitter has never cost $300!!!!

I would be concerned that I set up and have full control over the ipad and all accounts and apps on it. Also, I would not want it to be an ipad w/ cell phone access, just wifi. Too easy for strangers or even BF to be in touch with DD.

FWIW, as a parent I find it very hard to monitor an iPad.

OTOH, I bought one of the newer, less expenaive iPads for esucation with an Ipad pencil and there are tons of ways w/various apps to use it to make homework easier for my mildly SN son.

I guess my 7 year old is lost. He got an iPad, worse yet it replaced a Kindle Fire, for his birthday this year. Never mind that it is set so it can only be used for an hour and it requires my thumbprint and an authorization code from my phone to buy anything.

OP, you know how serious your relationship is and if you are comfortable with it. I suspect you are not because you are asking about it. But there are models that sell for $300 or so. it does not have to be a highly expensive gift but i would still consider the $300 level expensive.

low end ipad costs around $250.

If it’s not something you’d buy her at this age, then no.

Fine, lower older models are not that expensive. You've been dating a year. I'd rather him give you one, but its a nice gift.

It would be an ipad. I can afford one but have not thiught about buying her electronics just yet. She will be 10.

What do you think of my boyfriend, who inhave been dating for one year giving my child a tablet as a bday gift? So im a single mother, no help from father and have been dating a guy for about one year. Hehas told me he plans to give my daughter a tablet for her birthday. Im not much one to accept expensive gifts for myself. He asked me what i thought about the gift. While i think its a nice gesture, im not sure how to feel about him giving my daughter a tablet, especially since we have only been together for a year. What so you guys think about this? Good or bad idea.
