I saw a group of kids like this right outside of Eastern Market last Thursday night - all in white shirts, they were hassling an SUV driver who was stopped at a stop sign (like ran out into the street to stop & surround the car). As soon as I saw what was happening I turned around immediately and walked down a different street but I noticed them following me because they saw me turn around. It was definitely scary - and I'm generally pretty good at discerning between kids being kids and threats.

It's estimated that the assailants may be as young as 13 or 14 years old.

One small consolation in this video is that you can see two kids who see what's happening and immediately back off.

They are probably scared for their lives, maybe the man is still in the hospital and recovering from horrific injuries.

Also you can see that the brown male who manages to escape from the mob is recording them with his cell phone. He does this while trapped in the rotating door and continues to record their faces when he comes out. I guarantee that the cops have more footage they have not released yet. These are likely minors, so perhaps that's why they have not released the clearer footage yet.

Seems like a hate crime against a gay couple. White male and brown male couple; the white male tries to defend the brown male against the mob. You can see that right before the violence begins, the man in the white tank top says something toward the brown male who enters the hotel door.

I just wanna know what constitutes “awful”, for whatever you might’ve imagined him doing to provoke that.

It looks like a random attack to me. A couple kids start, their friends see the action and pile on. I hope they catch every single one of the perpetrators.

Seems attacks like this are becoming slightly more common. Not saying it’s an epidemic but they are happening
