Mazda does have a nicer interior. Yes, the Theta 2 engine issue might still be there, but the engine has been in production for 8? years now. You have another 10 years of powertrain warranty. Plenty of time to work out all the issues. Just keep up with regular kil changes.

Tucson not on the list. "Under investigation are the 2010–2015 Kia Soul; 2011–2014 Hyundai Sonata, Sonata hybrid, and Santa Fe; Kia Optima, Optima hybrid, and Sorento; and 2013–2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport."
My point is that they have a history of serious manufacturing issues. I had to have the engine in my Sonata replaced due to a manufacturing defect. It had a bunch of other potentially serious recall issues involving an airbag, transmission, brake lights, etc.
You may not want to drive any car sold in the US in that case. Is there any manufacturer without a major recall?

My Tucson has some cheap interior finishes, but nothing I can't live with. The CX 5 feels more spacious and seems to have a little more umpf than the Tuscon when accelerating. Given that they are pretty close in price, I'd go with the Mazda
