I’ve done both. It doesn’t add 15 minutes to get in line at Gravelly Point.

I lived in Old Town for 7 years and did the commute every day. I lined up for the first sixth months. Then became a last minute merger. Sorry.

Same. It’s not worth the stress or the risk. I always merge early. But I’m also happy to let you in if you merge at the last minute.

This works until you get a ticket (they have stings sometimes there) or shot.

+1

I use to commute on the GW parkway and at one point there was construction on the American legion bridge which caused the PKWY exit onto the beltway to get backed up. I drove up and cut in every single day. People at the front are never paying attention and there are always huge 3-4 car length gaps so i jump right in.

I don't usually commute to DC from the Old Town area, but I have to this summer. I always get over to the left most lane after DCA ASAP. I take the 14th Street Bridge into DC and you have to exit right.

SO many drivers pass those waiting in the right lane to exit right and then cut the line at the last minute. It's so infuriating.

I wish we just had two 14th Street lanes there with signs that directed everyone to "alternate merge".

For the first time this past week, I did the last minute merge over thing and cut my drive time by maybe 10 - 15 minutes! But I don't want to be that person.

Do you sit in the right lane and let everyone cut you or do you treat the two lanes as 14th Street exit lanes and go to the end and merge in?
