Dr Robert Silverman in Fairfax. He's a dermatologist and was the only one that helped with DD's serious eczema.

We like Dr. Scarupa, although we see him for a food allergy. For our daughter's mild eczema, a mixture of Aquaphor and Cerave works well twice a day. We do cortisone cream for flare-ups (although kid is now 7 and has not had many flareups for the past several years).

What are her allergies? Has she had a blood allergy test? Go see Dr. Shreiber.

We’ve done elimination diet but it’s largely external environmental triggers which seems impossible to control- she wears lightweight long sleeves and pants to avoid exposure, and eczema gloves at night to avoid bad scratching. We’ve tried every cream but only cortisone and Vaseline help vs. cause more flare up. At her 2 year pediatric appointment we were referred to an allergist that did help (anti histamine also helps with bad flare ups), and we have another pediatric appointment next week and I wanted some names of dermatologists to discuss as potential referrals. It’s affecting her sleep so much right now- she wakes up scratching and asks us to rub her skin to fall back asleep saying “my skin hurts”- it can take hours to settle her down. This despite all the measures that sort of work (cortisone, Vaseline, anti histamine).

We do need to try oatmeal baths! Will do that tonight in meantime.

Childhood eczema runs in our family, and nothing works except cortisone cream right when it starts. The toddler years are the worst, and at about 7 or so, the eczema largely disappears. It can flare back up during stressful periods throughout your life.

Melissa Abrams is a pediatric dermatologist who treats our daughter's eczema and psoriasis.

Have you seen a pediatric dermatologist? I'd recommend getting a referral to a specialist.

Colloidal oats cleared ours up better than anything. Grind rolled oats into flour and add water to make a paste. Use liberally all day and in bath.

What have you done to determine food allergies, if anything?

Does she have a pediatrician, and what has the pediatrician tried?

My daughter is 2.5 and it’s gotten to an unsustainable point- I’ve tried every home thing we could since she was a baby- it’s mostly manageable but lately she just seems increasingly miserable in her skin. I realize every case is quite unique and often physicians aren’t great at eczema, but if you have a good referral, please pass on.
