I'm 65, did get spanked, I only remember being spanked by my father, not often, but pretty sure as old as 15 or 16. Was told as an adult in therapy I was abused. I think my generation was the one that started deciding we weren't going to do that, and I think it had as much to do with our experiences as with societal messaging. I mean, spousal abuse didn't become a major topic until the late 70s, early 80s, which was also when DV shelters for women began to exist.

39, European. A few times when I was little, I don't recall them at all, my parents told me. However I do recall my mother slapping me on the face when I was 16, and I slapped her right back, because I thought she was being extremely disrespectful (which she was, because she had and continues to have, no boundaries and untreated anxiety). She never slapped me again.

Lesson learned - don't hit your kids when they get old enough to hit you back.
