Parents who come on here trying to convince others that all experiences are the same are simply delusional.


All those clubs are intense. If your kid truly has a strong passion and you can handle the commute have him tryout. IMO it is a different world up there.

We are a Hawks family and some of the information shared is not accurate. Hawks do not practice 3 times a week all year. At least not the 2026 team. They practice once a week in the fall and winter on Sundays usually. Many of the boys on my son's team played football in the fall and basketball in the winter. Yes they do practice 3 times a week in the spring. The spring season is intense and you are expected to be at every practice. It starts around the end of February and the beginning of March. You should definitely decide if you are willing to make the spring commitment. We have been very happy with the club. It is extremely well run and the boys enjoy playing together.

Hawks are an all-in organization. They practice 3x a week all year and no other sport can take precedence or your spot will be considered up for grabs. I would also look at Waze and see the travel time during evening and weekend practice times. But they win like crazy because the kids practice more than the local clubs. Skill wise your kid will be just as good and get just as many looks by playing for a local and supplementing with good clinics.

Hawks 2026 has won a lot a games recently. But the team will be changing heading into middle school. Holdback become a issue and kids start to get replace. Btw hawks have no loyalty when it come to tryouts.

I don't know a particular reason to choose the Hawks over pretty much comparable closer DMV options. I would look hard at the closer in options, and don't believe everything you read here, if maybe that's why you are looking to commute than deal with closer clubs.

I really appreciate your feedback. It was kind and objective. One of the reasons we are considering it is because DS is a rising 6th grader and we’ve heard that it gets harder and harder to make the team as the boys get older.

Free advice:

1. If you can swing the commute and are close enough go for it.
2. If the drive is an issue and he would not have any other friends on the team I would just pick a local team.

Hawks are a top program and provide excellent competition and coaching. 2026 is too early to make any sacrifice for club lacrosse in terms of driving time and not playing with the local club. The local clubs also offer strong competition and coaching. The delta is not that great at this point. A team that wins by three to four more goals than the other team at this age is not that big of a deal. Wait until HS when it matters. More than half the team will not still be on the team in HS anyway. This is just a fact. Most clubs really form in 8th grade. If it works then fine I would just not bend over backwards to do this when fine local clubs are available.

I saw the post about girls traveling to Baltimore for lax and I know boys do it all the time. I was just wondering because we are a DMV family looking at the Hawks. They seem to have a great club especially for the younger grades. Just curious if anyone has any other info on them. My DS would be trying out for their 2026 team.
