Op, you could potentially get some good advice on this board for how to handle this (besides never doing it again), but if you respond like this instead of being mildly reasonable and taking responsibility that you were driving at ridiculous speeds in a neighborhood then this will just go off the rails quickly as is happening already. Try to be a little more humble and take some responsibility. Sounds like this is probably a stretch where a lot of people are speeding, so I can sense your frustration with that. But it's not going to get you the advice you want here. I don't have a lot of experience with this so can't help in that regard. I have one friend that got a wreckless driving ticket and I do think he went to court.. can't remember the outcome.

DP.. honestly, OP, why do you think you should not have gotten a ticket? That's quite fast for a residential area. BTW, I was struck by a car in a residential area. People need to slow the F down. Why do you think we have speeding laws? What if someone was going 58mp in your neighborhood where your child was playing?

That’s pretty reckless. You’ll need to pay a lawyer a lot of money to pay some mechanic who will testify that your odometer was faulty.

That explains it. In Virginia, you can get hit with a reckless driving charge if you're going 15 mph or more over the limit.

In your case OP, it's richly deserved. You were going FREEWAY SPEED in a NEIGHBORHOOD! You know, where people live? I hope the judge throws the book at you.

Here is the story:

I was on my way to my way to work after dropping my son off at daycare, the cop was in the bushes of a neighborhood in McLean with a speed radar gun

I see him walk out of the street, then signal me down to pull over. There was about 3 cars pulled over for the same thing.

So I pull over, he tells me a I was speeding, then writes me a ticket for wreck less driving and boom

Get a lawyer. Seriously.

I was stopped by a police offer with a speeding radar, 30 something in a residential neighborhood

Anyway, has anyone had to go to court for this? If so, what was the outcome?
