Same here. Our controls flip out. They are facing up, maybe one inch below the counter top. If her kids have to squat down, then the also have to squat down to reach the counter.
I'm with the first poster. We hate ours for the very same reasons. We actually have the Wolf that she's linked to. Different strokes for different folks I guess. In any event, we too hate it and have installed another one in our pantry that we use. BTW they do still need to be cleaned even if you use a splatter guard.

Love ours too. Having spent a week at my sister's house where the microwave was in the island and wasn't a drawer reinforced how glad I was that we put one in our island.

I just renovated andi love mine. I don't mind that it doesn't rotate, but I'm not a heavy microwave user, so can't tell what the difference is. Also much easier to keep clean.

Have had one for about 6 years.
Pros:
-fits the space perfectly. We have lots of under counter space, not any good wall space, and I don't like range hood microwaves
-convenient height and works well. Easy for kids to use.
Cons
-much more expensive, I think about 2x from back when I was looking
-less reliable. I had one burn out, thankfully just within the warranty period

Love ours. We’ve had it for 2 years now. Went from over the range to a drawer when we renovated. I’m short so I much prefer the drawer.
