For a person, Lyme disease is no joke. For most dogs though, it's NBD.

+100. They also can come in on shoes, socks, pool towels, backpacks that are left on the grass... tons of ground animals carry ticks. The good news is that if you treat your dog with Frontline or other topical preventative, when the tick latches on, it shrivels up and dies.

This is a prime area for ticks. If you have animals in your home you will have ticks in your home. Therefore, more likely to get Lyme disease.

OP here. Of course we use Frontline but it’s not a magic bullet. To the PP who asked, no hikes in the woods, just regular walks in the neighborhood. We live in the suburbs.

Will these prevent ticks from coming in on your dog? How can I be sure that a dog won’t bring ticks in? We live in a rural area in CT and are thinking about getting dogs but (obviously) there are a lot of ticks around here.

You’re letting an animal walk in and out of your house. I’m not sure what you expected. If not ticks you can see, it’s plenty of things that you can’t see.

Even with a collar, ticks can still hitch a ride in. It’s not like the collar shocks them off.

There are other methods than a collar but you're right, even with a pill or hair treatment they can still come in. It's almost worse that way too, because then they're not latched on and are just riding along into the house looking for a meal.

Sorry, no ideas on the question but - ticks freak me out - so could you answer if you are using any flea/tick prevention (collar or topical)? Also, were you on a hike or in the woods (any idea where pup picked up the fleas)? Thanks OP, and good luck!
