My neighbor growing up was just Matt. He occasionally had to correct people that he wasn’t a Matthew but it wasn’t a big thing.

(Granted I’m also pregnant with a boy and LOVE Ben but don’t particularly like Benjamin or Bennett and am torn as to whether to move on or not because I do really like the idea of a full name and a nickname—so I do get your dilemma.)

It’s a 4 word explanation, so I wouldn’t sweat it. But yes, whenever you do something unusual, whether it be pronunciation, spelling, or using a common nickname as a full name, it may require explanation. Choose your name accordingly.

If you limit yourself to names that don't involve some kind of explanation you are really limiting yourself.

Yeah, I had the same issue with the girl’s name Dennie. I love the name - it was my grandmother’s nickname - but hate Denise.

I had to let it go. Maybe if #2 is a girl I will reconsider.
