I used to take it for MS. There was a study or some advice to stop for MS a few years ago, but can't find it now. A reliable brand that is less expensive is NOW, and it's on Amazon.

Anyone taking L-carnitine? What brand/ where do you order?
My clinic in Europe recommended that I take L-carnitine 2000mg/day
This supplement is not mentioned in the "It all starts with the egg" book nor do I see it on the Theralogix website where I order my other supplements...

(This is in addition to a pre-conception vitamin with folic acid and vitamin D, CoQ10, and melatonin.)
