Elk River Treatment Program in Alabama. I don't know what you mean by admission requirements. My kid has been great since he completed the program. It's been awhile.
What were his issues? I have just read so much about abusive treatment facilities...
Same as your daughters - self harm, suicide attempts, isolation, depression, mania. Also some violence towards family. Some theft from family. Some school refusal. Anxiety. Not substance abuse.
Here’s the thing to know about programs. Often reviews come from the former residents themselves. Some programs, Elk River included, are very difficult. Kids struggle with getting to the root of what’s driving the behaviors. It’s hard work. Plus, if you choose something like Elk River, which is an outdoor setting, the lifestyle itself is hard. Following the rules is hard. But the programs work.
Many and probably most programs are accredited and are licensed. That means they are subject to oversight and inspections and the staff are mandatory reporters. So unless you read about a specific program from a reputable source, what you’ve read is probably irrelevant.
I’ve posted before when things were really tough for our family and I appreciated every single note of support. It’s a tough road.
