Subject: Babysitter: pay for ride home?
There is a huge difference between an adult babysitter and a teenager. If the former, I would say they are responsible for their own transportation (especially at that rate). If this is a teenager, you need to provide. No way would I let you put my teenager in an uber to get home from a babysitting gig.

I have a hard time believing that you're oaying your sitter $30/hour. That is unless she's actually your nanny, and these are OT hours. Anyway, it's nice to offer if you can swing it, but not necessary. When I was babysitting for extra cash, I simply wouldn't accept jobs for less than 3 or 4 hours if I'd also have to pay travel expenses. So just consider if over all what you're offering is worth her time. If you really need coverage for an hour, better to offer to pay for the Uber to ensure she'd be willing to take the gig.

You’re not helping the family, you’re helping your child.

At $30/hr I would assume her to be an adult and find her own ride home.

How old is the sitter? If it’s a minor, I’d consider it my responsibility. If it’s an adult or a minor who drives, then it’s their responsibility.
Uber: pro is you can drink when you’re out. Con is there’s some waiting time.
You drive them: pro is you control how quickly they leave; con is you can’t drink while out.

$30 an hour? I'll come babysit. I drive, too.

I am the parent of a team babysitter. Most parents drive her home. In the case where it is a single parent, we go and pick her up just to help out.

Depends on where they live and how much you like the babysitter? Ours lives a $30 uber ride away so we always pay for her ride at least one way because otherwise it isn’t worth her time to come babysit. And she’s reliable and trustworthy and our kids love her, so we pay it. It doesn’t matter what people think you do or do not “owe” the babysitter... is it worth her time to babysit your kids if she has to pay for her own Uber?

We sometimes drive ours home if they don't drive - but that is rare, as most of ours do.

Transportation is on them. Maybe a ride to the metro.

Do you pay for your sitter's ride home (e.g., Uber or Lyft)? Or do you offer to take them to metro? We will be paying the sitter $30/hour.
