He too old for this. He should be cutting grass at 12 not playing with legos

I'm about to turn 50 with 13 and 11 year olds. Who knows if I'll be alive when my grandkids are born? I don't worry about that because I live in the moment.

I get it. I have a first grader and preschooler and (surprise surprise) every year they seem to grow up. DW and I were commenting how much easier it is to travel with them compared to 2 years ago.. but we also miss cradling them when they were tiny babies and so on.

It's all stages in life, just like your own life. I look back on my 20s and I had a great time being single and adventurous, but also don't want to go back to them. I enjoyed those memories, but I also look forward to new memories being made.

Take lots of photos.

Your husband thinks a 6 and 3.5 year old won’t get a lot of use out of a swing set? And then that triggers you to feel weepy about your kids not being little anymore and that you’re turning 30.

Do you all drink a lot? You sound off-base.

What? You’re realizing how little time you have? My oldest is going to college in a few weeks. You have no idea what you’re taking about.

To be clear, I couldn’t be happier for him. This is an exciting time for him. And it’s bittersweet. I will not become my friend whose kids are just a couple of years behind my own. She constantly posts pictures on social media from when her kids were little. They’re in high school now.

Enjoy today. And get some perspective.

This post made me roll my eyes. You are highly dramatic, op. Buy the swing set and consider having more kids if you like the idea of never ending childhood.

Yeah, that post was obnoxious, OP.

Plenty of us have kids the same age as you but we're a decade older. You won't find much sympathy here.

By spending time with parents of children older than mine. It gives perspective.

My kids are newly 6 DS and 3.5 DD and I was thinking about buying them a swing set and I was talking to my Dh and he made the comment that they won’t get a lot of use out of it because I’m a couple years my son will be too big and it’s probably not worth the investment. Then it hit me how in 2 years he won’t be a little kid and my daughter will be in elementary school. Time is just flying by. I love being their mom and I want to enjoy each and every stage but realizing how little time I have left with them is really sad. Maybe it’s also turning 30 that has me down. I feel so young but the reality is I’m not. How do you cope with how quickly time is passing?
