Put a tag on the book with the child’s name who it’s for.

Wait why didn't you correct them on the spot? If a kid didnt get a book but an older person had one, I'd go up to the adult and say "Oh! Thanks, that's for (insert child party guestname)" and take it from them. If they protest you explain that the party favors are for the children.

If its a no gift party and you don't want gifts, then no party favors. Its a bit odd for a adult to take one. It should be one per child.

I can't imagine grown women taking a child's party favor. How incredibly rude. Why don't you put them in a bag and only hand them out to each child as they are leaving.

OP here. OK! I was planning favors for all children. They're mostly 1-3 year olds with some 4 year olds. The book is age appropriate for all toddlers.

I had about 8 childless adults (grandparents, aunts, my single friends) take books last time. There wasn't a confusing sign, but I assume they saw a toddler ahead of them grab a book?

"Give" them to the babies via the parent(s). Older family members were taking books to use for baby shower gifts? Um, no.

Adults do not get favors at a kid birthday party - how odd they think they would. Did you leave them out and have a confusing sign or something that made them think they should take one?

Every kid (even siblings) gets a favor. If you don't want to give favors to siblings then don't invite them. If they don't want it because its not age appropriate for them then that's on them.

What? Party favors are for children. Single childless adults do not need to take a child's book.

Wrap them in tissue paper with a ribbon and put the children’s names on them.

One book per family

DS's party was last month and we gave out copies of his favorite book- Little Blue Truck as a party favor. I was shocked how many adults took one home and I had to grab other random things for the actual kids at the party. Older women loved it and were taking copies because they go to a lot of baby showers and always need books to give (!).

DD's party is next month and I'm trying to see how many books I should get. We're having a house party and siblings are coming. I'm going to stand my ground and state that the books are for the kids. But which kids? Just the kids her age? What about the older siblings? Or maybe one book per family?
