It does seem like a very large number of country music fans, don't fit the stereotypical demographic of being a red-neck. I'm wondering what the appeal of the music is.

Yes, but most white people aren't rednecks. That's a minority of the white population. Yet ever since the Garth Brooke days, country music has made major inroads into the non-redneck white population. For the life of me, I can't see why.

It’s probably more reflective of who buys concert tickets and pays for music, not necessarily the population as whole.

Country music is also really popular in Germany-I have a music app that is all german country stations. I'm far left and into country music.

A left of center country? Do you SEE who our President is?

Sounds like OP has politics and music confused with one another.

It's not a left-of-center country. The U.S. is and always has been conservative, with the exception of a few periods like 1930-1940. Also, country music does not have to be political. I agree that today Top 40 country is essentially an anthem for the GOP, but the genre itself has roots in Bluegrass, African-American Music, and Folk, none of which is conservative. Furthermore, plenty of current alt-country acts who are politically neutral or left.

First, don't be certain that you live in a left of center country. Second, most of America does not live and breathe politics; they just want to go out and listen to good music. You are suffering from a chronic beltway mentality that says you can't talk to anyone or shop anywhere or live anywhere or let your kids play with anyone where everyone isn't liberal like you.

I've heard that country music acts tend to sell out more arenas than other genres. I just don't get this. Based on the demographics of our country, I can't see why country music would be so popular. What is the explanation for this?
