Also, my middle kid doesn't have a lot of stamina right now, so one of the advantages of chess is that you can start, take a break and catch your breath or take a nap, and then come back and play some more. So, a multiplayer game that allowed that stop/start would be good.

Roblox, ticket to ride, small world, potion explosion, are all online - iOS or on steam/pc

OP here. We've never played that one, but if it works like I think it does it might be too much talking for right now, but I can definitely put the idea away for the future, because it seems like fun.

My 9 year old son is currently in the hospital out of state. It looks like he'll be there a while. He's been playing chess with his brothers at home via Skype, but they're hopelessly mismatched (hospitalized kid is wickedly smart and has had lots of time stuck in bed to practice!), so it's not as much fun as it could be. Any ideas for new games for them to play? Chess works well, because we just set up 2 boards, one on each end and move both pieces.

My kids at home might appreciate it if there was an element of luck, so they have some hope of winning! Kids at home are also 9, and 12.
