Test for food allergies. Also if you have a front loading washing machine get rid of it. Mold nightmare from hell.

OP here. We got a small Honeywell and it’s terribly loud with a secondary whining noise and smells like plastic. Will be returning and trying Levoit next based on reviews... Recs above like Austin Air are out of budget unfortunately.

Coway filter recommended by Wirecutter has done amazing things for my allergies. Filter changes every 6 months, but they do recommend cleaning the pre-filter every other week. That is a quick rinse and dry and done.

We have an Austin Air (Healthmate Jr.) and have been very happy with it. The filter is supposed to last up to five years, and we replaced it a little before that because the air wasn't smelling as good coming out of it. Other than that, it hasn't required any maintenance. We move it around the house occasionally, depending on where is seeming stuffy.

Our HEPA Winix off amazon was pretty affordable abd works well.

We have a homedics air purifier in my daughters room. We change the filter when the red light comes on. It’s definitely less than once a week though.

A persistent cough is what led me to get an air purifier for my DD’s bedroom. We have a small BlueAir in her room and then this one in our downstairs/common areas. The air purifiers + Zyrtec had her cough-free in no time—wish I had explored it sooner.

You need to get the proper size one for whatever room it's going in.

If your last one had to be vacuumed weekly, it was too small for the space or your house is filthy.

My 2 year old has a persistent cough and ped says it’s probably asthma or allergies and there’s no point in seeing a specialist. I’m doing what I can at home and was thinking an air purifier is in order. Is there a good HEPA purifier that won’t break the bank, isn’t huge, and doesn’t require an insane vacuuming and filter schedule to maintain it? The last purifier I had years ago had to be vacuumed weekly and filters changed monthly.
