Women love to whine and complain, what else is new.

Like most, yes and no. Great provider but high stress and pedantic. Can be a lot of fun and funny too. I am sure he sees me as a mixed bag as well. Still, we’ve been married 25+ yrs and have 3 kids. Pretty happy!

Mine is a control freak and treats me like a child. But other people have worse problems. People are complicated and any marriage that withstands decades is a miracle.

What do you want from them? In the 1950s, men worked, drank, had a couple of affairs, and were largely absent around the house except for repair work. Do this and croak by 60.

Life is generally disappointing.

What is with all these man bashing threads?

This board is becoming pretty sexist.

Plus one, in the great scheme of things, I assume the sexes disappoint each other equally but women have longer memories and men have much lower expectation of life and happiness

Not mine. We both have our faults but none of them are that major and we are both accepting of them. I feel genuinely lucky to have him as a husband.

I don’t know. My husband is a workaholic who secretly struggled with an opiate addiction for years 2-6 of our marriage.
I still wouldn’t trade him for any of my friend’s husbands or any of my friends who are husbands.

As with anything in life. The exceptional is exceptional because it’s rare.

PP here. I will add - most wives aren’t that great, either.

Yes, it's pretty typical. I disagree with the prior poster thats its all about wives enabling it. Things change in life over the years...people get more demanding jobs, kids come into the picture, etc. You might date a guy who came off as having it together. 10 years down the road with more life responsibilities thrown it, you become surprised at how disappointing he's become. There is a place for boundaries to curb certain behaviors, but it's not the whole story.

Happiness is about managing your expectations.

If their wives enable it and/or marry incompetence, sure.

I was talking with coworkers the other day and each of us was complaining about having a husband who was an extra child to look after. Ailments such as anxiety, depression, malaise and impulse control were thrown about.

Is this the norm? Are most husbands... dysfunctional man children?
