Hi! We live in the Capitol Hill area and are looking to possibly have a nanny share in our own apartment that we would welcome another family into along with our 3 month old daughter. starting Sept/Oct. This sounds like it could work perfectly for you. If you would like to chat more, reply on here and let me know and we can take it from there.

Best,
Marie

PS We found our partner family on the neighborhood listserv and the nanny through word of mouth.

I was under impression shares aren’t as common further out from the city...were you in DC when you did this? Any idea where to look for a share out in Anne Arundal/Edgewater md?

Maybe you're right... We were in Alexandria.

The other issue I see is that you would have your child in the car for 30 minutes back and forth, or however long it takes you. This is an issue especially at the end of the day when the kid is tired, cranky, wants dinner, or you're trying to keep them awake instead of having them fall asleep.

It’s totally doable, especially, if you find someone who is willing to host full-time. However, you would definitely need to have a back up (someone on your end) for days the family travels or is home and doesn’t need the nanny for the day. Or, find a nanny who would be willing to travel to both homes in the event one family doesn’t need him/her. Days you decide not to commute to work, you should be required to still pay for those days.

If you can afford it, I would just pay for a nanny in your home no nanny share. I've had a couple friends do nanny shares and it's such a pain in the butt to coordinate with the other family. Plus commuting with your young child isn't always easy.

Wondering if anyone has experience or knows of anyone who has participated in a nanny share that is in town who is commuting in to DC every day. We're looking at houses out in MD about 30 minutes away, but ideally would like to do a nanny share close to work on the hill. Is this out of the norm and/or crazy to consider? If the other family is willing to host, I'm wondering if we're totally off even thinking about this or if most families prefer to host with someone who lives nearby.
