They are not pros, yet. If he takes the Summer off playing video games, don't complain that he is not starting in the Fall. To be good at soccer, you need to play soccer. There is no other way. It may feel good because you don't have to drive them around but they kids who put in the work will be rewarded.

No the off season is when you work on individual skill and play pickup. Take some time off from soccer, play different sports. After a month or so off work on individual skills with a good coach. It’s a way to rest your body and your brain. There is not much free time during the season to work on individual skills. Pro athlete have an off season but kids can not?

There are not many games, most people miss over 1/2 the games and practices. So you are not really getting “game situation” play. Do the math per game and it can get expensive. If you want game play some smaller clubs’ camps are run more like pickup games and they are real affordable.

Also playing videos like FIFA actually helps younger players. Their tip menu is pretty good and it helps spatial awareness and pattern recognition. Laugh If you want to but NFL quarterbacks are using virtual reality to improve their ability to read defense. It’s like Madden but much cooler.

I hear mixed things about SuperY. We are going to give it a shot. For rising u13 players it sounds interesting since you get a jump on playing 11v11. Practices are late enough for it to be not that hot and games seem somewhat early. My DC keeps asking to get in better shape so using this to keep them motivated.

My kid used to play Super Y. Terrible league. Very uneven competition, super hot. But she loved it. I did not.

Breaks are needed. Games sometimes were even on a week night. like parents don't have to work. The heat is excessive and the money is outrageous. Then if your child is good they constantly send you stuff to do more things within Super Y. Did it once and won't ever again.

What days are games? He has another sport in the summer. Any information on how the program works would be appreciated.

Money pit, half the practices are cancelled anyway due to thunderstorms. I’ll save our $ and just have my kids play pick up. Both on top travel teams so taking a break is a good break. Swimming to get fit over the summer is a great alternative too

Take a break. Any serious coach not interested in taking yet another check from you would tell any U11 they would be better spent resting, biking, fishing or doing anything non soccer related for the summer.

Play is so uneven. Good for little kids to keep
Skills but then again really really hot.
Older kids use summer for a break to avoid injury their body needs to recover and or some individual skills.

It's 2 practices during the week and a game or two on the weekends. The game schedule is up on the SY website. For the U11s I think the only clubs participating are Arlington, Bethesda, McLean and Chantilly. Arlington and Bethesda have an A team and B team.

my son has played super Y for the last few summers. for him - it's a great fit. In the past, the other teammates have been a little below his skill level so it's a chance to shine a little and get some extra confidence. I would think he would be burned out from all the soccer, but for some reason, he still enjoys the super Y practices.... even when it is a bajillion degrees out.... makes no sense to me.. but who knows.... i guess he really just likes soccer?

It is a LOT of money... so if you can't make most of it, then i am not sure it would be worth it. If he is playing for a different club it might be a chance to meet new kids and new coaches. Doesn't mean you need to leave your club, but it's a chance to see other skills/systems/coaches.
