I'm a 30 year old white collar professional and most of the numbers are above my budget. C'mon really...$100 sweatpants?? You can cut the winter coat, dress shirt and sweatpants by half and your kid would still have leftover.

I think this is a troll. But, my approach has been, I buy a reasonable winter coat, shoes and equipment for their sports as needed (you never know when they will outgrow them). I then gave a $300 for fall back to school shopping and another $100 -200 at Christmas time. I'd like to give it all at once and teach budgeting, but it's difficult for the kids that need shorts in the spring and they can't find those in the fall. I end up buying some additional things over the year as a need arises (homecoming dress; shorts because DD's have become indecent due to growth spurt) but the budget is there for kids to use as they want for the trendy xx or yy thing they really want for school.

I had to buy my own clothes starting in HS, I think, and it came from my general allowance ($20/week in the early 90s). There were a few exceptions-- I didn't have to pay for my own winter coat, etc. Plus my mom was known to buy me clothes at Christmas or whatever. But mostly, it was on me.

No, you're being really cheap. Need at least $2k for a winter coat and they shouldn't wear the same one daily so they will need 7 coats.

I think ONCE I bought a coat that was over $100 by a smidge. AFTER I'd stopped growing. I still have the $40 Gap pea coat in navy blue that I got in my mid 20's, and I'm 42.

I've never bought any shoes that cost over $100 and definitely wouldn't spend that much on a pair for a kid.

Sweatpants are for wearing when you're home sick but need to run to the doctor's office. They should not cost more than $20. To pay for "name brand" sweats is ridiculous.

Those are some sky high prices! Can I have that clothing allowance? I would cut all those prices in half and call myself generous.

None of the above. My kids love thrifting and working the sale and clearance racks. Except for running shoes, we wouldn't be anywhere near your numbers.

What will he be wearing the dress shirts with? Sweat pants?

Anyway, my kids don't have an allowance because they don't buy clothes. If his foot is adult size, it might be hard to find shoes for $100, but not impossible at DSW and the like or on sale

Agree way, way too much for the winter coat. You can get a nice winter coat cheaper than the sneakers.

Adult size sneakers will be at least $100 - aside from that I can't imagine spending that much! $100 for sweatpants? And I can see spending $200 for a really good winter coat, but that is something you buy when the kid has finished their growth and it will last them for years. Not an annual purchase!

Why does your child need "big name items"? Yes. It's too much...the whole concept.

I am an adult who can afford a $600 coat, and I would never buy my child something like that.
