That's like spreading sand to ocean. What I try to point out is that the mathematical foundation is laid way before college calculus class.

Just wonder how each school assignment is counted towards the final grade in each quarter at elementary level? I saw Bs or even C on DC's school assignments, but the final grade for that subject turns to be A.

Maybe not relevant but my HS magnet student 10th will have 2 B's for the semester this year. I'm shocked as she's been a straight A student in the past and is working hard.

Yes. Even a C in a math sub category which was unexpected but a wonderful chance to talk about what that did and didnt mean.

We were told the same thing: expect Bs and Cs.

We've seen mostly As, a few Bs, and that's remained mostly unchanged. I think the 1st quarter was actually the best so far with just 1 B then we saw 2 Bs in 2nd and 3rd.

My child usually does the bare minimum even in CES. School is no longer easy, but he can get away with pushing harder work until the last minute and still do just fine and that is frustrating.

Another CCES parent, and yes, we got a B or two. He was shocked! I was not.

Sure, why not? My kid didn't get A's in their home school in 3rd either.

Not on the report card but has gotten Cs on classroom assignments, as well as B’s in parts of project rubrics. She actually got B’s on her report card in 3rd grade at her home school in PE.

Our teacher (PCES CES) told us at the beginning of the year to expect B's and C's. The material is at a totally different level than what the students are used to and it takes some time to rise to that level. I liked the way it was described -- these students would feel for the first time what it is like for most students in school (challenging, requiring work, interesting).

We were told to expect that the grades would rise as they moved through the year.

Personally, we've seen DC's grades move from about half and half A's and B's at the beginning of the year to almost all A's now at the end of the year. (Can't be sure until final grades come in of course.)

I would assume there are still B's (and a few C's) in several of the other kids report cards. Remember to focus on whether your child has learned something, whether there is improvement, whether your child is clear on what they need to do to do better. Try not to get too hung up on the letter grade. They are being judged to a different standard than those in other classes. There is recognition of that.

Do most of the kids get all As, or are some Bs common? Which CES is your child at? Mine's at Chevy Chase, fwiw.
