This comment, along with the one about where is Josh Sargent, are spot on. The USMNT is presumably trying to build towards qualifying for the World Cup in 3 years. Not trying to win this year's Gold Cup. Altidore or Zardes might be more valuable than Sargent for the latter, but certainly not the former. Altidore and Zardes will be 32 and 30, respectively, in the next World Cup. Josh Sargent will be 22. He needs to be given as much senior team experience as possible over the next 3 years to see if he can be a meaningful contributor to the team when they actually get to qualifying and, hopefully, the WC. The same is true for other young team members. If those young players don't develop over the next 2-3 years, then the coach can always fall back on more known commodities like Altidore, Zardes, etc.

Berhalter may not be long for his position as head coach.

I think it's funny looking at the comments here.
Half the people seem to be saying, 'if they don't do well in the Gold Cup, fire the coach,' and the other half are saying we should only be concerned about development towards the next World Cup.

Anyone that thinks Sargent is better than Altidore right now is out of their minds.
The sad truth is, Jozy is still the best overall striker we have right now, and the team was better against Venezuela when he was on the field.
Don't get me wrong, Sargent should certainly be on the roster though.

100%..........how is it that Sargent is left off the U20 World Cup roster and then not given a spot for the Gold Cup...........a total waste by US Soccer.........

Agreed. Time to get off of the wagon. Weah, Pulisic, Soto, and Sargent are the future.

That said, the defense was a train wreck. Steffens has had two massive gaffes in the last two games; he’s not looking like the answer to me.

Great to have Jozy back.

Face the reality. We got played off the field by a pretty mediocre team after losing to another mediocre team just a few days earlier. We have not looked this bad since the loss to Trinidad.

Steffen is trying too hard to impress Pep with the pinpoint passes in the back. He's getting loaned to Germany.

Never thought I’d prefer to have Jurgen Klinsmann back.

Can we get Klinsmann back to run the program and hire a good tactical coach?

If Berhalter manages to pull off a good showing, it will be because Klinsmann opened doors in the Bundesliga for American players like Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie to improve their game to international standards.

Ironic, no?

Yes, it is ironic. And Klinsmann would have found an opportunity for Sargent to play either with U20, or U23 or with senior national team to help the young player to gain valuable international experience and establish himself.

If we don’t make the final or get throttled in the final, Berhalter’s gotta go. Not that it’ll happen

After playing some uninspired soccer in its losses to Jamaica and Venezuela, the USMNT is heading to the Gold Cup. What are your predictions for USMNT's performance in the Gold Cup? Winner? Finalist? Semi-Finalist? Failure to advance from the group? What do you think about Gregg Berhalter's work product so far? Was he worth the one year wait when the team did not have a head coach? Are we going to have a new coach if the USMNT has a poor performance in the Gold Cup?
