Langley (and McLean) do have more drugs. It comes out in the surveys. It makes sense that the schools with more money have more drugs. They also have a higher suicide ideation rate. My two went to McLena and are both in college. When the oldest was ia freshman, a survey came out that said MCLean and Langley had the highest drug rates in the county (no surprise), but one of the highest suicide ideation rates in the country. Both PTAs and school have worked together since to try to mitigate that. Safe Schools is one organization that has a few meetings/seminars/outreach things a year. They have had some success, but suicide and drugs is still a problem.

Both schools have a higher than usual number of serious goal minded students that keep themselves clean too. Like anywhere, you have to be engaged and active parents at a time when some parents think their parenting job is waning.

No jealousy here. I've been told (by parents of kids who attend Langley HS) that a lot of kids at the school have too much freedom and too much money and that leads to drugs. My kids don't attend Langley so I have no first hand experience with the school and to be honest, there is drug use in every HS.

You may have missed the part that my kids attend an elementary school that feeds into Langley. My children will eventually attend Langley HS.

It doesn't. Called jealousy from the lower rated schools in the DC area.

The student parking lot is full of brand-new luxury vehicles and the teachers have old Hondas and Toyotas. It skews the power structure.

I grew up in Arlington and had a bunch of friends who attended Langley, TJ, and some of the top DC private schools. The really nerdy kids weren't using cocaine, but they were definitely into sharing ADHD meds, as well as experimenting with drugs for Alzheimer's (to improve memory while studying and before tests). DH works in IT with several guys who attended TJ and they talk about this a lot.

Our kids attend an elementary school that feeds into Langley. I feel like Langley has a terrible reputation. I know I personally didn’t want to move to a pyramid where kids were entitled, ultra competitive and had affluenza. So far the kids we have met seem pretty normal. You would think everyone is doing drums and are all obnoxious snobs.

Why such a bad reputation?

Are kids at Langley that bad?
