I do a couple a year. But Dh travels once a year for like 3 days and we have plenty of date nights, weekends alone, and one big trip a year without DS. And gasp we also do frequent small and big trips with DS. it's possible to do the best of both worlds!

Given your circumstances, I totally get wanting to spend the time/money with your husband! I would probably feel the same way.

Enjoy my girls’ weekends but also time away with DH and family vacations. A bonus is that my DH appreciates me and so do my kids all the more when I go away on a girls’ weekend.

Oh please. Most of us “actually” want to spend time with our kids. We can ALSO maintain a life and go on a girls’ weekend once a year! It’s not either or.

Yes, I do girls weekends, once a year, with my law school closest friends.

Yes, I also do trips alone with my husband, while kids stay with grandparents.

We also do family vacations (and in fact are doing one tomorrow night, just one night in a hotel to get away together).

It’s all great. Lots of fun. Time together, time apart. Time with all the people I love, in different settings, in different combinations.

We have a girls weekend once a year. Kids are older, teens in high school. I love hanging out with my besties! We eat good food, drink good wine, hang out and talk about the good and bad about our kids, our health, work, life in general. Sometimes we do mani/pedis, sometimes not. Sometimes shop, sometimes not. We have fun, without having to be responsible for anyone else (meals, transportation, making plans) for one weekend a year. Anywhere from 4-7 of us, depending on what's going on in our lives.

I have heard this before from one of my cousins, and I don’t completely understand the logic here, OP. Yes. I would rather go on a weekend away with my husband, but finding childcare for a weekend is much more difficult than just leaving the kids with your spouse overnight. And if childcare isn’t the issue, then plan your girls weekend for a weekend your husband is going to be working and you won’t see him anyway.

No, I’d rather be with my husband and kids. My husband doesn’t like them either but he may do one golf weekend a year if he really wants to play a certain course. My girl thing is limited to book clubs.

I think I’ve done them twice in 30 years. The last time was about five years ago and the other two women spent much of the time talking about their husband’s depression and a complete lack of affection which I could not relate to nor did I have any interest in listening to them. It’s sad given I’ve known them for about 35 years and we were very good friends.

A few of my girlfriends love planning girl's weekends away, but I am just not that into it. I hardly get to see my husband because he travels for work so much, and we haven't had a vacation alone without our kids in years. If I'm going on vacation, I'd rather be with my husband (and be able to get frisky!- hehe!) then hang out with my ladies, who I see for dinner all the time. Is this awful?
