Yep. When I was pregnant with our second, our then three year old had plenty of questions, and we talked about how the baby gets in there and how the baby gets out.

I took the opportunity to talk about c-sections--that he was so big the doctor gave me some special medicine so it wouldn't hurt and made a cut in my belly to get him out. And, that Mommy would have that again with his sister, and that means he'd need to be careful and gentle with Mommy and that Mommy would have to rest a lot afterward.

I told my 3 year old she grew in my belly and then came out, and she's been telling people that mommy ate her and then she was born.

The doctor takes/helps the baby out.

We get out DH's anatomy textbooks and show pictures. How else are kids supposed to understand how all these crazy organs fit together? We also specify that the baby is growing in my uterus to avoid confusion between digestive and reproductive systems because my 4 year old DOES have some idea where poop comea from.

So my 4 year old has been asking how do babies get out of their mommy's tummies. We have been very open generally on things like naming anatomically correct body parts, etc. How have others responsed to this question in a truthful manner?
