I would love to see a thread on this. For now I think the best way is to go to a major local tournament and watch games in your target age group. Of course that takes a lot of time.

Do you mind giving a bit more detail on the coaching situation for rising U12 boys? Are there issues with all the coaches in that age group?
The white team has a coach who yells a lot and sets a poor example. It is a very negative environment for players on his team. He’s even been carded at multiple games. The black team is without a coach. I would be hesitant to accept an offer without knowing the coach.
Also beware of empty promises about movement from the black team to white or white to blue. In general, there is very rarely movement up to white and blue is nonexistent. The only movement we saw white to blue in two years was the coach’s son. And we have seen a fair share of players moved down.
If you have a blue offer you can safely take it.

We have two kids at Bethesda on two different teams. This year we have had practices (roughly in order top to bottom of most common to least) at:

Montgomery
Wooten
Tilden
Landon
Soccerplex
Walter Johnson
Bretton Woods
Somewhere in Silver Spring I forget
A random fricking park in Potomac (seriously, on a baseball infield)
Some middle school I forget in Bethesda
They have practiced M-T-W-R-F at start times ranging from 4:00 to 8:30 (ending at 10:00).
