Prices aren't set based on what it costs to produce something, but based on how much people will pay for it. People will pay $5 to stream a movie, but they wouldn't pay $5 for a video rental. Companies charge what the market will bear.

1 movie is acceptable I guess. I can take a $5.00 hit. But what if I want to do a multiple movie weekend of 4 or 5 movies? That would be damn near $30.

I feel you OP. Isn't this why people have Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime so you can get watch a bunch of movies/tv already for 10 bucks a month

I don’t know where this mythical Blockbuster is but if you’re upset about streaming prices, go to the redbox or add discs in the mail onto your Netflix sub.

Convenience factor OP. Most people don't want to go out and rent a movie and have to return it. Most people's time is worth more than 5$. (I haven't seen a movie rental place in DC in a while.) It's the same reason kindle books cost almost as much as physical copies. Costs nothing to print and distribute, but you can have it instantly sent to your device.

$5.00 per movie is more than I paid to rent a physical movie at Blockbuster.
