I'm a CPA who is a controller at a large nonprofit. I have about 20 years experience and am making about $175k. But no bonuses.

You are way, way, way underpaid. I am a CPA, but not in tax. I left working 10 years ago, and I was an assistant controller making $120. My tax friends now are making $200k at least. Financial firms.

You are underpaid.

I worked as an audit manager at large national firm. I was at 95k as a second year manager. I left 2 years ago. Have been at a couple places due to acquisitions (which I got large bonuses when we sold). I am now an assistant controller at a 60m privately held co. Comp with bonus will be about 160k. 9 years into my career.

I worked at a small cpa firm right out of college. My friend who stayed (same number of years experience) is probably just now getting to 100k. Firm has about 25 ppl.

I'm GS 14 making about $125k as a budget analyst. Before I became fed, I worked at a small accounting firm making less than 70k. This was 15 years ago.
Your salary isn't huge, but you are doing okay. There are plenty of people who are making less than 100k in the accounting field.

Yes, you are underpaid. Try sending your resume to a recruiting firm that places tax and accounting professionals and talk with them about the existing job opportunities and compensation.

Yes, it seems like you’re underpaid. I used to work as an accounting manager in the finance division and was making 130k plus 15-20% bonus, 5 years ago. Maybe 45 hours/week during quarterly closes, with an occasional need to work a weekend, but outside of quarter ends it was at most 40 hours, many weeks in reality <30.

I’m a CPA at a large nonprofit. I make about $125,000 and work 40 hours most weeks. Ten years’ experience.

What do you do and how much do you make?
I'm trying to do some comparison so that I can figure out if I'm making the "right" amount for my position.
Let me go first: I'm manager in a small tax firm and making 100k plus bonus about 10-15%. I work around 50 hours during busy seasons. I have about 15 yrs of experience. I feel like I'm being under-paid.
