OP here. Our basement ceilings are 10 feet high. I prefer to work out at home, vs. a gym. I just really like the StairMaster. I do not care for the "stair masters" that are just pedals that go up and down (you push on them). I only like the stepmill/rotating kind. Just wondering if anyone has one in their home and how it has been for them. Thank you.

Yeah I train for competitive stair races and this is why I don’t have one.

I am talking about the ones in health clubs, with the stairs that actually move like an escalator.
The StairMaster StepMill is my favorite machine. I use it whenever I go a gym (very rarely), or stay in a hotel that has one.
At home, I work out every day. Every day for the past 30 years. I typically use the treadmill or run outside, though I have done cardio videos and used an elliptical (which we own).
I have always wanted a StepMill for my home, but have not purchased one due to the cost (used = $2,900, new - $7,000) and the size. We are now in a place where buying a used one and having it set up for us would not be a big financial issue. But we are not well off by any means.
My husband has relented and said to get one. He is not thrilled about it due to the cost, but mainly because he would not use it. I feel like since I have been dedicated to working out daily for years, and have never spent money on a gym, that purchasing a StairMaster is not a big deal. But he seems irritated that I "need" it. I just get tired of running and videos and would love to have another option. I WILL use it.
If you own one - any regrets? Does it break down a lot? Any idea where I could look for a quality used one other than sporting goods stores?
