After that, studies show that fetal mortality rises sharply in the 42nd week.

Op again. I'm 2cm dilated but still "very thick". I just rescheduled my next appointment from Wednesday to Monday, so I'll see how things are looking and feeling then, if nothing happens sooner.


I disagree that it's standard at 37. Most evidence supports induction by 41 weeks for 35+ year olds.

Don’t go past 41 weeks. At AMA that’s also an argument for induction. Personally I would demand one. Risks of lots of bad things just go up and up the longer you go.

I was nearly 3 weeks overdue with #2; because it was the Xmas holidays, the doctors seemed content to let me stew--no one wants to be on call on Xmas eve and Xmas day. I was okay because I didn't want to disrupt the holidays for #1 (and having your birthday on Xmas sucks). Finally delivered on New Year's Day. Dr. looked at my due date and was horrified I had fallen between the cracks. I should have been induced at 10+ days

I was 37 when I delivered DD, and I was told that I could go to 41w4d before induction, provided I agreed to frequent NSTs. For the group I was with, the cutoff age was 38, after which point they would strongly recommend induction once I went past 40w. FWIW, this was a practice of CNMs.

It was a non-issue for me, as DD was born several days before my due date.

It was standard for me at your age. Delivered my second at 41+2, a few weeks shy of turning 37.

My nurse midwife let me go two weeks, four days past my due date. But I had to go in every day that last week. She was born healthy at only 7’11 ounces. This was years ago. I think they are stricter about letting you go that far now.

Ok here, I should add that I'm having weekly appts with my ob and weekly NST to measure fluids, biophysical profile, etc. So I'm well covered at my appointments, I'm just anxious about well-being and safety over the week that I'm not monitored.

Also, this was an iui pregnancy so there's no possibility of error in due date,etc.

I had my second when I was 38.5. They made me do a non stress test at 40 weeks, and would induce at 41 weeks. I was induced at 41 weeks. At the very least they should be checking on the baby and your fluid levels.

I'm almost 37yo, with a 3.5yo dd (who was born 5 days late). Currently 40w4d pregnant with no labor signs. I'm not physically miserable or anything, but I'm a little unnerved by my doctor's willingness to have me return for my next appt a full week from today, and not sooner, assuming I don't go into labor before then. Is that standard?
