It's only going to piss off the MC and UMC who drive into DC (this includes a lot of "native" African-Americans). Poor black people who are the most risk of getting displaced can't afford to own cars in DC so it really doesn't affect them. If anything, I'd love for these ticket revenues to fund the newly free Circulator and provided subsidized public transport for poor District citizens.

Those who live solid middle class lives but feel they should be able to drive into DC at 50mph and park wherever they want can f#ck right off with their complaints.

I would have loved this when we had a parking space in Adams Morgan-- couldn't get cars towed without a parking ticket but not easy to get a parking ticket written.

Let’s not forget the free labor that the DC government will get out of this. While I’d love to issue my own traffic tickets to people who block bike lanes and double park when there’s a curb spot WIDE OPEN, I have a serious issue with furthering our surveillance state while encouraging more #gigeconomy (or work for free) bullshit.

It's part of an Omnibus transportation package that is sponsored by 9 Council members. It will pass.

It's a pilot program, citizen-officers will be required to undergo training and use a special app to report the incidents.

It's a great idea.
