All i know from both sets of sisters is what we see in the media and i am painting with a broad brush here. But it really does seem that Barbara and Malia are quieter and more introspective while Jenna and Sasha have that bubbly outgoing thing. Its the same with my two DDs. The older one is studious, quiet, thoughtful and is a junior at an Ivy. #2 is athletic, outgoing, enthusiastic and she will attend a top flagship public this fall. Really those college choices jive with what ive seen of my own kids as they have gone through this process and how they seem from a distance.

Maybe that's the best fit for her? Maybe her parents didn't see the need to try to shoe horn her into Harvard. She'll have enough contacts on graduation, she can go to the school she feels she's best suited for. People thinking that somehow University of Michigan isn't good enough is what fuels the ridiculous cheating scandals. After all, people who are public figure or celebrities have to keep up appearances regardless of what's best for their kids. Good for the Obamas for not buying into that.

One reason to go to an elite school is connections and exposure. Sasha already has those things.

One factor might be proximity to Chicago.

Maybe it has an excellent program. Kids choose schools for a variety of reasons, but many of the Ivy Leagues are chosen for the connections and not just the education. Well, she has the connections, so if the UoM had a better program, good for her!

It’s being reported that that’s where she will be attending. Sure it’s a great school for us mortals. But it is rather odd that a president’s child would attend a school ranked #27.
