I went to the same school from kindergarten to grade 12 in my home country and several of us have remained close. We now have a Whatsapp group to stay in touch.

1 from elementary school, 4 from high school. I got back in touch with a couple when I moved back to the area and they also moved back or had stayed here. I also reconnected with an elementary school friend who is a professional photographer and did the photos for my wedding. We both got a kick out of the fact that I got married at our parish church, attached to the school. She already knew all the nooks and crannies for taking photos.

I'm also from a small rural area where I went to school with the same kids K-12. I'm still in social media contact with 25-30 - and by that I mean not just reading posts or glancing at pictures, but commenting, asking questions, sharing something you know they'd like, actively following (and then there's another larger group where we are just social media connections, without interaction). Without social media, the number would be more like 2-3. My family moved away from my small town as I was finishing college, so in person connection would have been difficult to keep, but if my parents still lived there I'd probably see 10-12 people at least once a year, and enjoy catching up.

Conversely, we have not had a reunion from high school in a long while. I think social media makes that sort of reunion not as necessary.

Like PP, my best friends from middle school/high school are still my best friends, though only one of them is geographically close now. However, we have a WhatsApp chat going and text daily, and when we get together (a few times a year with the out of towners) it's like no time at all has passed.

I am also in touch with a few childhood friends through social media, and occasionally we will chat via Skype (I spent my childhood in another country).

Some people I used to know have become celebrities and billionaires. I know about them from media and internet. Would they remember me? Probably, yes. Would I want to get in touch with them? Not really. We were never close before and we have nothing in common, now more so.

Thanks to social media the present generation is at least in the position to get in touch with their friends. I don't even remember names or faces, let alone addresses.

Still talk to my BFf from 3-6th grade. Saw her last month. Text with my Hs bff. See my college BFF a few times a year.

I think these kids will have more continuous connections with their friends due to social media. Not as much ability to “lose touch”

At least a dozen. I grew up in upstate NY, went to K through 12 with the same people and have remained very close. Our 20th high school reunion is this year and I am really looking forward to it. I wish I could give my kids a similar community in this area and in 2019 but it seems unlikely.

I moved in 5th grade so no one from elementary.

Still close with my 3 best friends from middle school. Kind of lost touch with many others although still stay connected through FB.

I wonder if my children will be in touch with any of their current friends.

The only friends I am in touch with from the very young years are my parents’ friends’ children. I moved during childhood and that was long before the internet so it isn’t like Elementary kids would stay in touch.

I have one friend from middle school that I’m still friends with and that is about it.
