No shit, OP. Why to you think during the gas crisis in the 70s-80s the fed set the national speed limit at 55 mph?

Moving more slowly than the general speed of traffic makes me grumpy, though.

You would be surprised. I just asked five people that I know, just wondered, none of them knew most of those tips.

Well, if you're ignorant, chances are high that you also know ignorant people. Also, five people is not a good sample size...see my first statement.

No. It just makes everyone else drive faster and dangerously in order to switch lanes to get around you. So net-net, the world is worse off when you decide to be an asshole and drive slowly.

If I can save few trees then why not?

... because it's really dangerous if you're driving at a time when traffic is going much faster?

I do a lot to try to be kind to the environment, but I'm not going to drive in an unsafe manner.

Only if your time is free. I'd rather get where I'm going faster.

Most of the time on the Beltway you're lucky if you're going over 30mph...

Not true. The traffic hours are not "most of the time"

Apparently SO! According to this article tip number 6:

6. Drive at the Speed Limit or Below
Most cars burn gas less efficiently at speeds of 60 miles per hour or higher. Driving slower has an immediate effect on your gas mileage – plus, it keeps you from getting costly speeding tickets. Cars vary at which speeds they are most efficient, but none have a top-efficiency speed greater than 60 miles per hour.
