She might get a stern letter from the admissions officer when they see her final grades.

I agree that she should call or email if she wants to get ahead of it. She'll need to give a reason for the C though and offer some thoughts on what she might do differently.

My DD had to take an online course due to overcrowding at her school. There was supposed to be a teacher monitoring her work, but that didn't happen. We were shocked when DD received a D in the course and thought her offer might be rescinded. (Only the teacher knew the status.) We spent days worrying about it. Her college advisor wrote an email. Fortunately, her offer was still good (top 25 school)! Good luck to your DC!

Yeah, great idea, give them a head's up that they need to pay special attention to this kid's grades, which they otherwise wouldn't even notice.

A final grade of D or F will trigger a letter asking for an explanation from any university. Some schools like Michigan and the UCs will also rescind admission for 2 or more Cs.

The only stories I've heard about colleges rescinding offers are when accepted students have been found to be members of Facebook groups who have mocked other races.

Wasn't that about 2 or 3 years ago? It was Yale or Harvard and they kicked back maybe 6 students?

So my point is, the change of heart about accepting a student would normally be due to the reporting of some extreme behavior.

I do know that some schools say they fully expect grades to remain at the same level through til the end of the year, but I don't know if the college you name has this policy or if they enforce it by asking for report cards.

Or better, have her talk to her college counselor -- they'll probably tell her to not worry, but if there's an issue the counselor can call Northwestern.

My DD a few years ago had a similar situation and her school counselor ended up calling the admission office which said one or two Cs weren't a problem.

I doubt this is an issue for one C, particularly if you're talking about a quarter grade. It's the last few weeks of Senior year and time to let off the gas a bit and enjoy yourself a bit.
