We use voip.ms. I bought a nice refurbished Cisco phone for the house; their website had step by step instructions. As a plus, I have one of those auto-attendants for people who call in. They can press and get the home phone to ring, or ring my cell or my husbands cell or even my office. There’s a hidden menu that lets me use the number for conference calls (which has been handy more than once). I had someone on Fiverr record the greeting and menu.

We use magic jack. For the most part its good. Every once in a while its a bit spotty. You pay extra for 911 but not much and it is $30 a year so worth it.

We have a young child (4) who is learning to use 911 for emergencies and we'd like to have a phone in the house that he can access if there is ever a need. We do own a burner flip phone, but I don't think of it as easy to use. So we are looking at returning to having a wired phone in the house.

We live in a place where copper-wire phone line is not available and are uninterested in throwing Verizon more money.

This leaves us with VoIP. Do you use it? If so, which?

And: will it work for this purpose?
