I have twins. They run in my family and DHs. When I announced my pregnancy many of my cousins called saying I wanted the next set of twins. Everywhere we go people stop to talk. . Most complement our family (the twins are the youngest) and say they want or wanted twins. When people ask what it's like. I let them know that I can't remember the first year. It was so much work. The twins are in Kindergarten now so it's a lot easier. I'm thankful that I was able to have a full term pregnancy and two healthy children. Multiples are a high risk pregnancy so everyone should keep that in mind too.

Twin mom here: Twins is what you want when you don’t have kids. Twins are very hard and the issues don’t stop at preschool. Also not well publicized but many twins have physical problems that they are born with making it harder.

We did IUI. I was pregnant with triplets at the 6 week ultrasound. I remember being on the table thinking “just stop counting”.

Going home knowing I was carrying triplets was overwhelming. Twins would have been okay. But 3 seemed too much.

My body must have thought so as well because by the 8 week u/s, there were only 2 sacs. Lots of relief that there were only twins. I also think there was a certain amount of naivety around the amount of work twins would take.

In the end, the 11 week CVS showed that 1 fetus was T18 and I reduced at 14 weeks.

So I went from holy fu$k, we’re having 3, to thank god it’s just 2, to very happy to bring home one healthy child.

Ha same here. Though I still kinda hoped my second (for whom we did IUI) might be twins, even though we decided for time and financial reasons to stop at 2 kids. We weren't going to try for a third but if it happened at the same time as the second, well ....

My husband was incredibly relieved when the ultrasound showed just one. We had a lot of ultrasounds for various reasons and at each one he urged me to make sure it was still one, or at the big ones that he came to, he asked himself!

Anyone who wants twins should spend time around newborn twins to better understand just how stressful and crazy it is.

My aunt wanted twins. She never got them, so she compensated by dressing her two boys who are closest in age alike all through elementary school. She had six kids.

I have twins born without without Art/ivf . It’s hard on the woman’s body (higher rates of preeclampsia, birth and pregnancy complications, etc), -and it’s more risky for the babies to be a twin (higher rates of prematurity, low birth weight, death, cerebral palsy, special needs in general). Also twin newborns and toddlers are exponentially more work than singleltons. But once you are past all that it’s a piece of cake and very fun!

I think it’s common in people that have not had any kids yet. Once you know the reality of caring for a newborn, not so much. Plus twins are a high risk pregnancy.

Husband and I both wants twins. But it doesn’t run in our family. We’d both love it!

My brother and his (now ex) wife wanted twins for the same reason. Specifically, they wanted boy/girl twins so they could have one of each, but just one pregnancy.

They didn't have twins though. One boy, and then about two years later another boy.

I wanted twins for the same reason you did. DH and I both have a lot of twins in our families so I thought we had a decent chance. We didn't and stopped after one kid.

Spouse and I just started TTC, after having one child several years ago. Before my DC was conceived, I wanted twins because that seemed like an efficient way of getting two kids without having to be pregnant more But now, I still get really excited about the idea of twins. Whenever I think about having more kids, in my imagination it's twins. I have never dreamed of a large family or thought twins were mystical or anything like that.

Is this common? Weird? FWIW I have no family history of twins and am not using medical assistance to conceive, so my chances of twins are not great.
