I would recommend talking to a former DIII player in your club. Many of coaches played DIII and can give you first hand knowledge.

DP, but of course there is a hugely smaller time commitment compared to D1. There is no need to question this.

The time commitment has been as advertised - which means significantly less than D1, and with the ability to study abroad in the spring. My DC talked to many D3 coaches during the recruiting process. Depending on the school, the coach may be able to help with admissions, but our impression was that at many academically elite D3 schools, the coaches had less leeway than at D1 schools, including Ivy schools. My DC focused on NESCAC schools, where merit awards just don't really exist. There may be other D3 schools where the coach could help get that, if it is available.

If so, has the required time commitment, etc. been what your DC expected? Do you have a sense as to whether a coach can help a high-performing student (strong test scores and GPA) receive academic money/awards that the student might otherwise not have received if not a recruited athlete?
Thanks!
