OP here. You know what I, personally, can't do? Guarantee everyone a living wage.

Here's what I CAN do:
1) Vote in ways I feel is consistent with my social values.
2) Advocate for policies I feel are consistent with my social values.
3) Create jobs in my organization (CHECK)
4) Tip well when and where I can
5) Start feel-good threads

I've done good in the ways that I have the capacity to do good today. Have you?

The title alone speaks volumes. Not in a good way.

We forgot to get change before a recent trip so we ended up tipping EVERYONE who got a cash tip $20 (porters, valets, etc - you know when three different people help you do one thing). At first we were going to get change at the resort but then we decided we liked being the big tippers. And in the grand scheme of the trip expenses it really was just a small fraction.

I took my kid to TGIFridays. I hadn’t been in so long I was floored to get the check back and it was $20. The server had done so much for us, I ended up tipping $20, which anyway is more consistent with our typical dinner out.

I got a $50 tip while bartending in college and it enabled me to eat for the last week of that semester.

I’m a big tipper as well. I think dealing with the public has got to be one of the worst jobs. I never waited tables but imagine it’s tough. I also like to anonymously buy meals for other patrons on occasion. I sometimes leave immediately after so I am not outed. I stayed once and the group of maybe 15 women cheered. It was the day of the original Women’s March and you could tell they had gone. We also pay off lay-away every Christmas. It feels good to spread kindness. I remember the low times in my life when strangers just appeared out of nowhere to help. It really makes an impact. Of course, we do other charitable giving as well but I love the instant gratification of quietly spreading a little kindness.

I'll let other people debate tipping. I love tipping, I tip well and often, and it feels great.

Do you have any good tipping stories?

I went through the car wash a few weeks ago. I asked the attendant who takes your money/helps you select a service to make change for a $20 so I could tip the gentlemen who clean at the end. Then, I handed her back $5. She broke out into the biggest grin and said, "For me? Are you serious?" I said, "Of course, you're working hard, too. Thanks for helping me out."

Later, while I was waiting inside, she came inside to thank me again and tell me to be blessed. She was so nice.
