That is true though it's not impossible to pupil place to Thoreau or Luther Jackson (know of both this year). It's 2 years away from the kids they will see at Madison (and some of the Kilmer kids do go there). Alternatively, they can go to Wolftrap and Kilmer ((9 years) and then see 80% of their classmates go to Marshall (if that student is zoned to Madison). The zoning is messed up for all of these kids.

A student zoned to wolftrap can still go to SACC there if they go to Louise archer. The facts that archer feeds to Thoreau is a positive for those zoned to Madison since the majority of Thoreau students go onto Madison. Wolftrap is zoned to Kilmer. 80% of Kilmer goes to Marshall. If Marshall is your HS then that is positive.

Also, Wolftrap is a split feeder for high school, so the Marshall bound students would do better if they had Westbriar as their center option, but that is a more crowded center.

The problem with Louise Archer for Wolftrap neighborhood families is that it starts late, has no SACC, and mostly feeds to Thoreau whereas Wolftrap kids feed to Kilmer. That's why Wolftrap can rest on its laurels. Till all Louise Archer kids have the option to attend Thoreau and the building is expanded to allow SACC, most kids within the Wolftrap boundary will stay at Wolftrap.

It was an obvious decision for us to stay at Wolftrap when given the option to attend Louise Archer. We have been extremely pleased with the administration, teachers, and families at Wolftrap. My child is very happy at Wolftrap, so we saw no reason to change.

However, every child and family is different and you should decide on what is best for your child. Visit both AAP orientations, talk to other families at both schools, and do your due diligence for your child.

Don’t switch if you think it’s a utopia at Louise Archer. It’s reputation is better than it deserves. Teachers are okay for the most part with very small pockets of stellar teachers.

We’ve had a different experience at Wolftrap. My children have had great and mediocre teachers but we have been very at happy with the school. The PTA is very involved and plan a lot of activities. I do not attend meetings and am not involved but appreciate their level of dedication to the school. It makes a difference. I have not had any issues with administration. We’ve had friends switch their children to the LA center and are also happy. Both are excellent schools.

NP here thinking of moving in LAES zone. I'd love to hear more about your experiences! We're coming from a very friendly, diverse school with supportive teachers.

YES- so true.

The community is awesome at LAES. I find Wolftrap to be really snobby with lots of bratty entitled kids personally.

Why would you choose LA over Wolftrap?
